The area above the ceiling of a commercial building (the plenum) can be used to aggressively mitigate energy consumption and loss with measures such as upgrading the the HVAC and ventilation and by installing barriers to air exchange. The plenum can also be used to capture thermal mass with a new, state-of-the-art suite of passive products called Phase Change Material (PCM) that capture heat during the day and release it at night.
During your commercial building assessment, ECOterra Energy will do a thorough inspection of your HVAC system and plenum to see if there are deficiencies that can be improved upon. ABOUT PHASE CHANGE MATERIALS (PCM)
Phase Change Material is a bio-friendly and sustainable suite of products used to passively capture and store excess thermal energy from a building during the day, then release and disperse that energy at night at controlled times and specific temperatures. This product not only reduces kWh but shifts loads from peak demand to off peak times and as a result reducing demand charges by as much as 50%.
We are so enthusiastic about the results we have seen with PCM technology and its potential to dramatically save energy in commercial buildings that ECOterra Energy has partnered with a company that manufactures a suite of PCM products. These passive thermal mass products can reduce cooling loads by as much as 40% in multi-story office buildings through a Phase Change Material process.
PCM is project-specific; engineered then installed specifically for a new or existing HVAC system in your multi-story, single story or residential building.
